Brief

The District Group was successful in a competitive pitch to design and build the ground-breaking new Destination Gold Coast website.

Destination Gold Coast had a very clear vision as to what they wanted their new website to achieve:

Visitor-focused: mobile first; quick to load; easy to navigate to relevant information
Content-driven: ensuring users can engage and discover content easily and naturally, maximising the value of dynamic content
Convert the maximum number of visitors to making an online booking with third-party venues in the region

Process

Our approach to this both challenging and exciting project included best-practice use of the Sitecore CMS to meet Destination Gold Coast’s strategic marketing. Our user-centred approach to UX, IA and design was optimised and refined throughout the duration of the project, using high-fidelity wireframes and interactive XD prototypes which allowed for immediate user testing and rapid iteration.

With mobile devices accounting for around 70% of the site’s traffic, we took a mobile-first, responsive approach to the UX and UID. This included a full review of the site’s information architecture, to help streamline the delivery of a range of users to the most relevant content as quickly and intuitively as possible.

RESULTS: 400+% INCREASE IN LEADS TO INDUSTRY

Destination Gold Coast is charged by the Gold Coast City Council with attracting ever-increasing numbers of tourists to the region. The positive impact the new site has had on their capacity to achieve this objective has been incredible – with LTIs (leads to industry) increasing by an astonishing 400+% and lead conversions by over 80% year on year. Visits also increased by 48.4% and sessions by 61% - plus a 19.1% increase in average session duration. 

We are also delighted to announce that Destination Gold Coast has won not one but two 2023 Sitecore Experience Awards (SEAs) in the APJ region for its work with PING Works and Canvas Group. The stunning new website was selected from a record number of entries for its exemplary use of Sitecore’s extensive suite of marketing tools, winning under the categories of:
